Matilde Lerias's Story
At 23, Matilde experienced her first menstrual cycle in her adult life as she had to stop taking hormonal contraception due to migraines. What she did not expect is how much this would impact her life. As an active person, Matilde specifically noticed how much her cycle was negatively affecting her fitness routine.
Matilde set herself the challenge of trying to understand if she was the only one with this problem.
"After speaking with 300 women, 82% shared their fitness routine was also affected by their cycle, but the solutions out there were not solving this problem."
This led to Synkit, a wellness app which tailors fitness to the menstrual cycle by adapting the chosen exercise plan to each phase of the cycle. Therefore, considering the changes in women's mood, energy and metabolism across the cycle.
"We are now live on the App Store and Google Play Store, have grown to a community of 200+ women, and help women achieve their goals, monitor their progress, and feel empowered every day. We are now focused on further improving the product to create a hyper-personalised experience for our users, while increasing our user base through community events across Manchester, Leeds, and online."
Later this year, Synkit will be focusing on raising investment to continue their journey. Matilde noticed how limited women's health research is, so in 2025 she started a PhD in Women's Health, funded by UKRI at the University of Leeds. This led Synkit to Spark.
"Spark has been fundamental to our journey. As an Enterprise Scholar and a Business Competition prize winner, the funding we have received has allowed us to continue building the product while focusing on our marketing efforts. We have now started building our community in Leeds, which would not have been possible without this support."
Spark has helped Matilde develop her skills through mentorship and guidance which has allowed her to become a better founder to continue leading the team and Synkit.
